CRS Issue Statement on Labor, HHS, and Education Appropriations

Authors: Pamela W. Smith, Coordinator, Analyst in Biomedical Policy

Abstract: In considering appropriations for programs funded by the L-HHS-ED bills, the 111th Congress will continue to face a variety of old and new issues. Some areas of congressional concern recur for each department each fiscal year, such as ongoing differences over the appropriate degree of federal involvement in education policy or in the enforcement of labor standards. Other debates may occur as Congress reacts to new initiatives proposed in the Obama Administration's FY2011 budget, or as it responds to new threats to the health or well-being of the population.
