Abstract: Former spouses of retired or deceased federal employees may be eligible for a portion of the retiree's annuity or a survivor annuity if such benefits are specified in state and domestic relations order issued as of certain dates. A closed group of former spouses may receive specially appropriated survivor annuities if not specified in a court decree, provided the former spouse meets five eligibility criteria.
